What gear?

This year, I shall be mostly wearing….

Leathers:

Same as last year, these were a very self-indulgent purchase – custom fit, full-bells-and-whistles BKS leathers. They’ve been highsided and lowsided and are in great shape. I had some of the worst bits repaired after Cartagena, but they crash so well – the vast majority of the damage is always on the Titanium sliders. Excellent kit, but a fortune to buy. If I was to replace them, I’d probably go with Held custom fit.

Helmet:

I ran out of lids last year – I started wearing older ones but I crashed them all so I had to get a new one. Arai have changed the RX-7 quite dramatically this year and out of the box I was somewhere between small and medium where before I was a perfect medium. But Mr. Arai was at the NEC show and made a custom lining. What a helmet! Much better vision and ventilation, improved visor mechanisms, incredibly comfortable. Highly recommended and Arai do a good ACU discount.

Gloves:

Held custom Titan Evo. I can’t see me ever wearing anything else, absolutely top kit. The quality of these gloves is excellent, I got to choose my colours and no more floppy thumb-ends. Crash exceptionally well but give superb feel. I’ve seen so many gloves split in crashes, I think there is a lot of junk out there.

Boots:

TCX RS-2 boots. Couple of years old, they fit better than most and do a great job. Again, see no reason to replace them with anything different – and despite being crashed, it looks like the sole will wear out before anything breaks!

Back Protector:

Forcefield. Recommended by BKS, thick and clearly capable of absorbing big impacts. Top kit.

Wicking Layer:

Skins compression gear. Stops your tits from wobbling, but more importantly makes slipping into and out of leathers a breeze whilst keeping you dry and apparently the compression effect reduces muscle fatigue. There are cheaper brands that are probably every bit as good (eg 151).

Everything above comes highly recommended.
